The Center for Food Action prevents hunger and homelessness, and improves the lives of individuals and families living in poverty. The mission of the Center for Food Action (CFA) is to “prevent hunger and homelessness and improve the lives of individuals and families living in poverty.” Poor nutrition in seniors can lead to a variety of health conditions, such as heart disease, weakened bones, and diabetes. For seniors living in poverty, maintaining a healthy diet can be especially difficult. CFA is hoping to raise funds to bring their Dinners4Seniors program to their senior clients, which now account for over 20% of the people they serve. This program provides seniors with healthy meal kits along with simple, balanced recipes to help them improve their nutrition. One meal kit, valued at $40, contains enough lean proteins, fresh and frozen produce, and extras to provide each senior with 4+ wholesome meals on top of CFA’s standard food package. $480 supports a monthly meal kit for one senior for a year.

Family Promise delivers innovative solutions for family homelessness including prevention, shelter, and stabilization services. Family Promise of Bergen County uses a holistic, integrated approach to help homeless working families become self-sufficient. Our work begins with meeting the immediate need for safe shelter and food but reaches further to address the root causes of homelessness.
